Lavender selection at British Garden Centres

Lavender is prized for its vibrant flowers and wonderful aromatic scent. To thrive Lavender needs a sunny, well-drained spot in your garden, they also do well in free draining containers and look great on a patio, terrace or balcony. Lavender produces abundant nectar and so are fantastic to plant to support your gardens pollinators with research showing that English Lavenders are best due to their larger flowers making it easier for the bees, butterflies and insects to access the nectar.

There are several varieties of Lavender to choose from. When deciding which to choose consider the size of the plant, the colour of flowers/foliage and hardiness. Traditional English Lavender varieties such as 'Hidcote' and 'Munstead' are firm favourites as are reliable, hardy and provide a profusion of flowers.

Newly planted Lavender will need regular watering during the first Summer then once established plants will do well with little maintenance. If you plant your Lavender in containers they will need regular watering, but be careful not to over-water as Lavender plants dislike soggy roots. In order to keep plants compact and looking attractive, it's important to trim the plant in late summer once flowering is finished.
