Make it bloom is to show that gardening is for everyone

This is the place to come for jargon-free gardening guides, everyday tips and tricks, and LOTS of ideas and inspiration from our resident gardening expert, Eve.

Each week we’ll be introducing a new theme that will have its own video and guide (for if you prefer watching or reading.)

These themes are a bit like lessons at school (although hopefully a lot more fun) in that each one introduces a new topic while building on what you’ve learnt previously.

So, without further ado, lets get started.

And what better place to start than…

Gardening foundations

We’ll be honest: gardening can feel overwhelming as a beginner.

Daunting latin plant names, confusing terminology, and thousands – if not millions – of different varieties of plants, each with their own specific care needs.

But here’s what we want you to remember:

Everyone starts with zero gardening knowledge.

We all have to begin somewhere, whether that’s sowing our first tomato from seed or buying our first houseplant.

And then, if that goes okay, you try something else.

Just like how plants develop their roots before they can grow, developing as a gardener is all about starting with a strong, simple foundation and then slowly building on it.

Whether you’re brand-new to gardening or just want to solidify your understanding of the basics, Eve’s video on the top 3 tips for starting out in the garden covers three of the most important foundations in gardening.

Master these three things and you’re well on your way to growing success.

As easy as A, B, C…

The world of gardening is full of long, complex words that can feel pretty impenetrable as a beginner…

Biennial, ericaceous, herbaceous, half-hardy

Let’s be honest: most of us just want to get our hands dirty and start growing things, not sit down and revise a list of terminology.

While we completely relate to this, taking a few minutes to learn the main gardening terms will prove absolutely invaluable in helping you choose the right plants for your space and ensuring that they thrive.

And, as you’ll soon see, they’re actually not quite as complex as they seem.

So, without further ado, let’s get stuck into our Garden Jargon-Busting Guide.

You can watch Eve’s video if you’re more of a visual learner or you can check out and bookmark the guide here and come back to it as and when you need it.
