Bring Mocha Mousse into your garden

Pantone’s Colour of the Year is practically made for the garden. The warm, natural tones of Mocha Mousse can be found in an array of plants, trees, grasses and flowers. We’re here to show you how to embrace the Colour of the Year, and inject some of the magic of Mocha Mousse into your garden.

What is Mocha Mousse?

It might sound more like a dessert, but this is the name of Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2025.

Here it is, described in Pantone’s own words:

“Mocha Mousse is a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.”

More than just a colour

Pantone’s Colour of the Year isn’t chosen just because it looks nice.

Their decision is inspired by observing colour trends across the worlds of fashion, interiors and design.

According to Pantone, the Colour of the Year “expresses a global mood and an attitude, reflecting collective desire in the form of a single, distinct hue.”

We’re not too sure what that means either, but let’s not get caught up in the wording; after all, we’re here to talk about colour.

Akebia Quinata

To introduce a vertical element in your garden, the Akebia Quinata, or Chocolate Vine, is an excellent choice for capturing the Mocha Mousse look. Come springtime, it puts out a cascade of maroon, pendant-like flowers.

A stunning backdrop

One of the great things about Mocha Mousse is how neutral a colour it is.

This makes it an ideal backdrop for bright, complementary colours like blues, violets, pinks and oranges.

Stipa and other grasses deliver that warm, natural quality of Mocha Mousse, while remaining neutral enough to work well with a wide range of other flowers.

Why not plant this year’s summer flowering bulbs alongside some ornamental grasses to add a touch of Mocha Mousse to your garden this year?

Agapanthus, irises, gladioli and dahlias all work really against a backdrop of Mocha Mousse.
