Happy December everyone! I’ve got some lovely festive gardening jobs to show you this month, from growing your own stunning amaryllis to bringing a bit of festive sparkle to your garden…
Grow your own Amaryllis flower
With their gorgeous, vibrant flowers, amaryllis are one of my favourite things to grow at this time of year, and it couldn’t be easier to do!
You’ll find a selection of amaryllis growing kits at your local British Garden Centre which contain everything you need to get started, including a bulb, growing pot, and soil pellet. These kits also make the perfect Christmas present!
To get started, the first thin you’ll want to do is rehydrate your coir soil pellet in water. Then, simply fill your chosen pot about two thirds full, place your bulb on top.
Amaryllis bulbs should be planted so half of the bulb is exposed. I then like to top off the pot with a bit of grit for a decorative finish.
Bring some Christmas sparkle to your garden
With Christmas just around the corner, now’s a great time to give your garden a bit of festive sparkle.
As well as the tree in my house, I always like adding some lights and maybe even a few decorations to a potted outdoor tree. And the best thing about this is that you can keep on growing it after Christmas is done, ready to decorate again next year!
Our Fern Lighting range is perfect for this as they are fully weatherproof and have a built in timer that automatically turns them on at the same time each day.
I used some of our battery powered lights as they’re super simple to setup and you can easily hide the battery pack in the branches for a neat and tidy look.
Pop into your local British Garden Centre to pick up a potted tree, and you can shop our range of Fern Lighting both in-store and online.
Plan your garden for next year
With things being a bit quieter in the garden over December and January, it’s the perfect time to do a bit of reflecting and planning.
Before new year comes around, I always try and have a think about what went well in my garden this year, what didn’t go how I hoped, and what I’d really like to try next year.
If you’re keen to kick off 2026 in the best way possible then seeds are the perfect thing to start with.
Whether you’re planning a bountiful veg patch or stunning swathes of flowers, you’ll find a huge selection of seeds at your local British Garden Centre.
